Nut Butter Berry Smoothie

Nut Butter Berry Smoothie with staying-power from vanilla protein powder and an ultra creaminess from nut butter. Easy, ready in 5 minutes, and loaded with protein, antioxidants, and fiber.
Nothing beats a luscious, cool and creamy smoothie, especially during the warmer months. You should know that I am a super picky person when it comes to my smoothies. They are often too sweet, too bland, or too icy. Not to mention, smoothies frequently get a bad rap for being overloaded with sugar. I am here to tell you that smoothies can be a super balanced breakfast or snack to fuel your day. This is one of my favorites and is in my weekly smoothie rotation.
What makes this smoothie healthy?
Let’s take a look at the power-house ingredients in this supremely delicious smoothie to get the scoop on how to turn a smoothie into a nutritiously-supreme breakfast/snack option:
Frozen blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries: loaded with antioxidants, fiber, and essential vitamins and minerals. First serving of fruit/veggies, check!
Banana: known for providing the essential mineral potassium, but is also high in vitamin C, vitamin B6, and fiber. Either fresh or frozen works here. Second serving of fruit/veggies, check!
Spinach: lots of calcium, potassium, and magnesium in this dark leafy green. I promise you cannot even taste it. Third serving of fruits/veggies, check!
Nut butter: provides that ultra creamy, milkshake texture along with a boost of healthy fats to satisfy hunger. I love almond butter or a mixed nut butter here the most, but any nut butter is delicious.
Vanilla protein powder: provides protein, of course! Keeps you full and fueled for hours!
Almond milk: I go for unsweetened almond milk. Any milk works, just make sure it is fortified with calcium and vitamin D for optimal nutrition.
And just like that, you’ve got three servings of the recommended 7-10 servings of fruits/vegetables per day plus a generous amount of vitamins and minerals in one glass! I think that is pretty awesome and is one of my favorite things about smoothies besides the milkshake-like texture and flavor.
